Class IV Laser

K-Laser, Lite Cure laser  and Diowave Class IV laser

In our office we treat conditions ranging from chronic low back pain from bulging or herniated discs,  sciatic leg pain, Stenosis and spinal arthritis. Other conditions we have had success with are degenerative knee arthritis, plantar fasciitis, shoulders pain, and even pain associated with shingles.  Laser Therapy

When it comes to pain management, Laser treatments are very safe and may provide dramatic results.  It is an effective alternative to more aggressive treatments like surgical procedures, shots and does not require the use of drugs and has virtually no side effects!

Studies Have Shown many Positive Effects of Laser therapy below are some of the proposed benefits:

Laser therapy on elbow Improves and promotes healing & tissue repair
Advanced reduction in pain and spasm
Increases joint flexibility and range of motion
Reduces symptoms of osteoarthritis
Improves peripheral microcirculation
Detoxifies and eliminates trigger points
Inflammation reduction
Faster recovery time
Increased Circulation
Immune Stimulation
Muscle Relaxation
Improved Vascular Activity
Accelerated Cell Reproduction and Growth
Stimulation of Nerve Regeneration
Increased Metabolic Activity
Faster recovery from nerve injury
Reduced pain in post-herpetic neuralgia
Injury healing is faster and of better quality (stronger tissues)

How does it work?
Laser Therapy helps to biostimulate tissue, which could enhance repair and growth, and decrease inflammation and pain.
Cellular Effects of Laser Therapy occur when photons of therapeutic laser light interact with cells. Higher adenosine tri-phosphate (ATP) levels are produced, cell membrane permeability is increased, and blood and lymphatic vessels are vasodilated. These events then lead to a cascade of beneficial effects increasing cellular energy and health.
Laser Therapeutic Effects
During each treatment, laser energy increases circulation drawing water, oxygen, and nutrients to the damaged area.  This creates an improved healing environment that reduces inflammation, muscle spasms, stiffness, and pain. As the injured area returns to normal, function can be restored and pain is relieved.

How long has laser therapy been utilized in pain management?
Laser therapy has been used in Europe for over 30 years.
What is the power of most laser therapy devices on the market?
Most laser therapy devices used by health care providers are class III lasers or "cold" lasers.  Their power ranges from 5 milliwatts to 500 milliwatts.  Our K-Laser has 10 Watts (10,000 milliwatts) of power our Lite Cure laser has 15 Watts (15,000 milliwatts) and for Chronic severe cases we use our Diowave laser with 30 Watts or (30,000 milliwatts) of power. However, the Laser power is adjustable allowing for a wide range of treatment protocols. This power and penetration of the class IV Laser system is not attainable with cold laser devices with the same treatment time.
How many laser sessions are necessary?
Usually ten to fifteen sessions are sufficient to achieve a treatment goal for many conditions.  We do treat chronic severe cases that may need more than the average treatments to provide long term results. These sessions may be scheduled anywhere from one to three times per week.  However; there has been great success and pain reduction with less than five treatments, but for long term results the recommended ten to fifteen sessions is best.
Are there any safety risks associated with Class IV laser therapy?
The Class IV high powered Laser gained FDA market clearance in March 2005 and is extremely safe provided it is applied by a certified and properly trained professional. However, it is not used over the eyes due to the sensitivity of the retina; therefore, all patients wear protective safety glasses during the treatment.
Is there any pain or side effects associated with Class IV laser therapy?
The Laser should be painless and has virtually no side effects when applied by a certified, properly trained professional. During treatment, the patient experiences a gentle warming effect, and at many times a profound feeling of relaxation.
Can't the same therapeutic effects be achieved with a noncoherent light source?
Coherence of laser has a greater penetration ability and higher therapeutic value than noncoherent light, although wavelengths specific to photobiomodulation will provide a therapeutic application regardless of the source. The laser therapy system however provides high-power laser in specific wavelengths that dramatically decrease treatment times and improve deep tissue penetration. Faster treatment time is a great benefit to the busy practitioner.
Is it true that new therapeutic strategies are being developed in laser therapy today? Yes, multiple researchers throughout the world are finding therapeutic application of different infrared wavelengths as well as other visible light wavelengths such as red, green, and blue frequencies and their effects on tissues. Advances in laser application and delivery include variations in modulation or frequency and intensity as well as different treatment wavelengths.  These variations in laser delivery produce different effects on tissues resulting in shorter treatment times and better treatment outcomes. There are limitations in low-level laser therapy because of dramatic absorption of infrared in the subcutaneous tissues. It is difficult for lasers under 200 milliwatts to penetrate beyond a few centimeters. The Class IV therapy lasers are the front-runner in high-power laser therapy systems and will continue to improve as new applications develop.
